Meitheal Mara is looking for a part-time Boat Yard/Workshop Assistant (19.5 hours/week). This is a skill progression position in a social enterprise, funded under the Community Services Programme of the Department of Rural and Community Development. The post is restricted to applicants from the Government Employment Target Groups listed on the next page. 

The individual appointed will have basic skills in wood working and an interest in boat building and working with boats. He/she will be interested in completing basic QQI course modules at National Framework of Qualifications Levels 3 and/or 4. The person appointed will have the opportunity to develop their skills and gain working experience of a range of boat building and wood working techniques, such as: 

  • Working with Hand Tools
  • Wood Work
  • Wood Turning
  • Boat Building techniques
  • Canvas sewing 

The Boat Yard Assistant will be involved in working on boat building orders and training projects alongside experienced staff in Meitheal Mara’s boat yard, including basic boat building, regular care and maintenance of workshop tools and equipment, ordering timber supplies and stock control, quality control, and health and safety. 

The gross rate of pay for the position is € 259.50 per week.
