A step towards a thriving maritime hub for Cork

As part of Meitheal Mara’s long-term vision for a vibrant maritime culture in Cork, we’ve been steadily working toward the development of the Cork Maritime Activity Centre (CMAC) — a dedicated new hub for community water-based activity, skills training and social inclusion on the city’s waterfront.

Rooted in our Strategic Plan, CMAC reflects Meitheal Mara’s core priorities: collaboration, access and inclusion. The centre will provide shared facilities for local clubs, social enterprises and community organisations, a new public slipway, inclusive water access, and support for a wide range of activities — from currach rowing and traditional boatbuilding to therapeutic programmes and search & rescue operations.

We’re pleased to share that the future Centre now has its own website — offering a first look at the project’s goals, values and benefits: corkmaritimecentre.ie

This milestone coincides with the launch of the Cork Docklands Framework Plan by Cork City Council on 30 April 2025. Strategically located along the Marina, CMAC supports key strands of the Docklands vision, and our engagement with this process continues.

The website outlines the many ways CMAC will bring Cork’s river to life — welcoming activities such as currach and coastal rowing, sailing, dragon boating, boatbuilding and more — while building a stronger, more connected maritime community.

We hope this new platform helps inform, inspire, and build momentum as the project takes shape.
